Chukeni hydropower project nearing completion
JUMLA, SEPTEMBER 7:The Chukeni hydropower project, located in Gadigaon of Patarasi rural municipality-1 in Jumla, Nepal, is nearing completion. This project, which is a source of pride for the district, is expected to be finished by December of this year.
According to Janamaya Rokaya, the vice-chair of the rural municipality, the project is in its final stages of construction. A team, including Devendra Bahadur Shahi, a member of the Karnali Provincial Assembly, visited the project site to assess its progress.
Engineer Dinesh Thapalia of the Alternative Energy Promotion Centre reported that approximately 85 percent of the power generation work and line extension work for the Chukeni project has been completed. It is expected to take another year for the power generated by the project to reach households.
The Chukeni project has received investments from various sources. The Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (APEC) has contributed Rs 310 million, while the rural municipality and local residents have invested Rs 130 million. Additionally, local people have invested Rs 60 million through shares in the project.
Once completed, the Chukeni hydropower project is expected to generate 998 kilowatts of electricity for the region.
