Rescue flights not prohibited during 'operation hours: CAAN
KATHMANDU, AUGUST 13: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has clarified that no flights intended for rescue operations have been banned in remote areas beyond the designated 'operation hours'.
The recent directive from CAAN stipulates that airlines are required to conduct flights to remote areas only within specified timeframes. This decision aims to reduce the risk of aviation incidents during the monsoon season and enhance overall flight safety. However, the CAAN's decision is facing criticism.
CAAN spokesperson Jagannath Niraula clarified that the restriction on flights beyond operating hours applies exclusively to the monsoon period and does not target rescue flights. The prohibition pertains solely to commercial flights in remote areas. According to CAAN's explanation, the 'operation hours' for airports in remote regions typically commence at 6:30 am and conclude at 12:30 pm.
